Per 1,000 mL Glucose monohydrate 71 g, alanine 4.4 g, arginine 3.8 g, glycine 3.5 g, histidine 0.93 g, isoleucine 1.6 g, leucine 2.3 g, lysine acetate 2.1 g, methionine 1.3 g, phenylalanine 1.6 g, proline 3.5 g, serine 2.1 g, taurine 0.32 g, threonine 1.4 g, tryptophan 0.63 g, tyrosine 0.12 g, valine 2 g, Ca Cl dihydrate 0.18 g, Na glycerophosphate hydrate 1.3 g, Mg sulphate heptahydrate 0.38 g, KCl 1.4 g, Na acetate trihydrate 1.1 g, Zn sulphate heptahydrate 0.004 g, refined soya bean oil 8.5 g, medium-chain triglycerides 8.5 g, refined olive oil 7 g, fish oil (rich in omega-3-acids) 4.2 g
Indications/Uses
Given when other forms of feeding are not good enough or have not worked.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administer via infusion into a peripheral or central vein over 14-24 hr. Infusion rate should not exceed 3 mL/kg/hr (corresponding to 0.21 g glucose, 0.1 g amino acids & 0.08 g fat/kg/hr).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to glucose, amino acids, electrolyte, lipid, fish, egg, peanuts or soya. Hyperlipidemia; coagulation disorders; problems using amino acids; acute shock; uncontrolled hyperglycaemia; high serum levels of electrolytes; acute pulmonary oedema; hyperhydration; untreated heart failure; hemophagocytic syndrome; unstable condition eg, after serious trauma, uncontrolled diabetes, acute heart attack, stroke, blood clot, metabolic acidosis, severe sepsis, coma, hypotonic dehydration. Serious liver disease. Serious kidney disease w/o access to dialysis.
Special Precautions
Immediately interrupt infusion at any sign or symptom of anaphylactic reaction (eg, fever, shivering, rash or dyspnoea). Avoid any contamination especially during catheter insertion. Not to be given simultaneously w/ blood in the same infusion set. Patients w/ DM, pancreatitis, hypothyroidism, sepsis. Recommended to use continuous & well-controlled infusion. Monitor serum glucose, electrolytes, osmolarity, fluids balance, acid-base status, liver & enzyme tests. Evaluate catheter insertion sites daily for local sign of thrombophlebitis. Kidney & liver problems. Pregnancy & lactation. Not indicated for newborn babies or childn <2 yr. Childn 2-11 yr.
